per-oral; nasal; pulmonal; buccal; sublingual; The per-oral, nasal, pulmonal, buccal and
sublingual administration routes exhibit common properties. For per-oral,
nasal, pulmonal, buccal and sublingual applications, the drug has to pass
along the way between site of administration and site of systemic entry
without degradation (approximately 100 µm for buccal application and more
than 50 cm for peroral application). The site of
systemic entry – the epithelial layer – is additionally protected by the
mucosal layer as a highly effective barrier. |
